The Byzantine setting lends novelty and charm to this enchanting, beautifully costumed romance from the Greek Middle Ages (Byzantio). Antonina, a high-spirited young actress, enjoys playing seductive games offstage. One such game enmeshes the powerful general Andronicus. But then she falls in love with a young man, risking scandal and the wrath of her protector.
